Pilates: A Journey to Wellness

What is Pilates?

The original name for the series of exercises was Contrology, but it’s affectionately known as Pilates after its founder, Joseph Pilates.

A pioneer of his time, Pilates endured health issues and devised a series of 34 exercises to maintain body suppleness and health. Over time, as research has progressed, various variations of the original principles have emerged, allowing us to integrate them into our daily well-being.

My interest in Pilates began during my own health journey. Initially, I heard of it as a fashion fad in the late ‘90s, but I soon fell in love with it and have been a fan ever since.

In 2004, I completed my undergraduate degree in Applied Health Sciences, specialising in Pilates and Therapeutic Massage. My fascination with the human body and its functions has driven my passion for rehabilitation. Having undergone numerous surgeries and injuries myself, I wanted to improve my chances of recovery.

Pilates has been instrumental in helping me through major surgeries, such as my kidney transplant and a broken ankle. My rehabilitation knowledge enabled me to develop exercises that enhanced my ankle mobility.

My passion is to help people feel good within their own bodies and improve their quality of life through movement. Every body deserves to feel great, and Pilates should be accessible to all. I like to call it “Practical Pilates,” incorporating the principles of our daily activities, such as walking and showering, into the exercises.

I ensure that my classes are fun, challenging, and rewarding, empowering people to feel great both mentally and physically. I use various exercise equipment, although none is mandatory, as I believe it can enhance the experience and outcomes.

At the end of each class, I incorporate meditation to help people find stillness in their busy minds and calm their nervous systems.

Currently, my in-person classes are based in East London, UK, but I’m also able to offer online classes and 1:1 sessions.
